Class & Course Details

PLEASE NOTE - INTRO TO K9 NOSE WORK® IS A PRE-REQUISITE FOR THIS COURSE This course is open to clients who have completed their Intro to Nose Work & have met benchmarks indicative of a strong foundation and understanding of box work. This course includes a Birch training kit! What is target odor? In K9NW , the target odors for competing in NACSW™ sanctioned trials are three essential oils: ● Birch (specifically Sweet Birch) Betula lenta ● Anise (specifically Aniseed) Pimpinella anisum (not to be confused with Star Anise – Illicium verum) ● Clove (specifically Clove Bud) Syzygium aromaticum or Eugenia caryophyllata Why to train on target odor? Although almost all of the challenges and concepts of the highest level of competition can be introduced to the dog in the primary-reward stage, typical reasons for introducing target odor are: ● Eager to compete ● To add a training challenge ● Easier to place hides ● Intrigue ● Fun! When dogs reach a training level at which they are ready to compete, they will be required to pass an odor recognition test (ORT) for each odor, to prove they are ready to search for one or more of the target odors in a trial.
